Terra.com Soccer Coverage Scores a Golazo
For faithful sports enthusiasts who follow their
favorite teams religiously, Terra.com begins detailed coverage, today, of the Liga
Mexicana (Mexican Soccer League). This coverage continues following Terra Networks
USA’s exclusive Web site coverage of the Copa Oro (Gold Cup™) soccer tournament
that featured a record number of 25 matches in six cities across the United States.
More than 35,000 sports fans dropped in to check the team’s schedules on Terra.com
even before the games started, from May 20 – June 30. The site generated 103,000
page views, prior to the tournament’s first match. Those numbers increased
dramatically during the July play-offs with 600,000 unique visitors to the Copa Oro site
and more than 1,520,000 page views.
“As was to be expected, online traffic spiked significantly on game days; and when
Mexico played in Copa Oro, the peaks were unprecedented. Mexican soccer fans are
loyal to their teams whether they live in the U.S. or abroad, and whether they are
English or Spanish-dominant,” stated Michele Azán, vice president of sales at
Terra.com. “Now that Copa Oro has ended, it’s on to the next wave of soccer mania.”
Terra has covered Liga Mexicana coverage for the last five years. As with Copa Oro,
Liga Mexicana coverage on Terra/deportes will feature a live score ticker, extensive
photo gallery, calendar, news articles, forums and even video clips.
“Due to our history of sports partnerships and exclusive coverage, such as that of Copa
Oro, we have steadily built a loyal online community that follows all the major soccer
tournaments,” added Dennis Seda, Terra’s chief editor. Current sports channel
offerings include Mexican Soccer League, Road to the World Cup and Copa
Libertadores. “We know our fans will tune in en masse for World Cup 2006 and Copa
Confederacion in-depth coverage, since Terra is considered the internet 'King of
Copas.'”
For those who may have missed one of soccer’s memorable moments and for those
who simply want to relive and relish the play, or even to purchase your favorite team’s
jerseys from the CONCACAF online store, the Copa Oro web content is still posted at
Terra.com/copaoro2005. Terra.com is currently the official site for two of the world’s top
soccer clubs, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
