Terra.com upgrades breaking news coverage with Noticias and Forums redesigns to encourage local coverage

Just as the news that makes headlines varies constantly, Terra Networks has made several changes and has re-launched their news channel (http://www.terra.com/noticias) and forums channel (http://forums.terra.com/forums/gforum.cgi?do=portada.) These enhancements are
additions to excellent Latin American regional content coverage provided on Terra.com’s
news channel.

An audience usability survey was conducted this past May on Terra.com and users
indicated that news is the most preferred channel. Since the enhancements were partly a
result of Terra.com’s response to this survey, online studies will continue to be offered
where the users can vote on different news topics and at the same time see the results of
the latest polls ranging from “Should Catholic priests be allowed to marry?” to “Would you
vote for a Hispanic presidential candidate?” Yet another audience-driven change was the
incorporation of weekly feedback, opinions and essays from the site’s users, called Voces
Latinas.

The Noticias channel re-launch includes a front page with today’s top story, plus late
breaking news. To increase site navigation, links below the page feature relevant content
areas such as entertainment, sports, music and issues affecting U.S. Hispanics. Free, upto-
the minute feeds from several of the world’s most prestigious news agencies news like
EFE, Associated Press (Spanish), Reuters (Spanish) and BBC Radio (Spanish) are
available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We are constantly improving Terra.com content offerings fueled by user input,” states
Fernando Rodriguez, CEO of Terra Networks. “We have made significant improvements to
include the most relevant, breaking news information as well as encourage continued
audience feedback and interaction.”

One new element that encourages user interaction is FotoNoticias, which includes a
Picture of the Day, Picture of the Week, Image Galleries and The Picture of the Year,
which can be selected by online user votes.

Additionally, the Forums service has been redesigned to coincide with the Noticias channel
re-launch. Visitors can upload photos to supplement Terra content which will foster local
news coverage and promote audience interaction. Forums can be searched by author,
subject, or discussion. Plus, the most popular conversation per category is featured within
Forums to bubble up the most relevant content according to Terra's audience at that
moment.

The main thread is “simple navigation.” The updated channel has already generated an
increase in traffic with approximately 80,000 page views on the day of the news channel
re-launch and continued increases on subsequent days.
