Terra.com welcomes Chef Douglas Rodriguez as the “face”
of the site’s Cocina page http://www.chefdouglasrodriguez.terra.com. Now, Terra.com users can
follow along as Chef Douglas prepares his finest recipes via instructional webcasts.
Terra’s audience will become part of the cooking frenzy that Chef Douglas has created in his
restaurants and through his best-selling books. The James Beard award-winning chef is considered
by many in the food and restaurant industry to be the “father” of Nuevo Latino cooking. Chef
Douglas pioneered the Nuevo Latino movement which began in Miami in the early 1990s. The spirit
of Nuevo Latino cooking is the unique and creative blending of typical regional favorites such as
Argentinean beef with Mexican poblano molé sauce into an international fusion of traditional Latin
cuisine.

featured in several myriad of national publications.
A national sweepstakes will be held as part of Cocina’s launch on Terra.com. The grand prize
winners will receive a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway to Miami to dine in Chef Douglas’s
newest addition to his restaurant line, Ola on Ocean and stay at the Savoy Hotel. The sweepstakes
will run during the 2005 holiday season.

About Chef Douglas Rodriguez
Douglas Rodriguez is regarded as the creator of Nuevo Latino cuisine. He was born in New York City to
Cuban parents Gloria and Francisco. At 13, the family moved to Miami, Fla. where he acted upon his
culinary passion and began mixing up recipes and creating new dishes. Even as a young apprentice, he
fascinated everyone with his exquisite aromas of his versions of assorted Latin dishes. A year later, Chef
Douglas acquired his first restaurant job as a summer apprentice at The Four Ambassadors Hotel in Miami
where he quickly honed his cooking techniques.
He attended culinary school at Johnson & Wales University, where he also received an honorary doctorate of
culinary arts. Throughout his extensive professional career as a chef, he has received numerous accolades
for his remarkably original cuisine. He has been awarded the Chefs of America Award (1991), Culinary
Master of North America and New York awards (1994), the James Beard Foundation Rising Chef Award
(1996) and a nomination for the James Beard Foundation's Best chef, NYC Award (1999). In 2001, Chef
Douglas received The Black Culinary Alliance's Jefferson Evans Award for his continuous support of
minorities in culinary arts. He is the author of several books including the groundbreaking cookbook, "Nuevo
Latino."
In his long career, Chef Douglas has opened and served as Executive Chef at some of the nation’s most
important Latino restaurants including: Ola Miami, Ola New York, Patria, Yuca, Alma de Cuba, Deseo,
Chicama and Pipa. He resides in Miami with his wife of five years and his three children.
