Unprecedented 14 Million Streams Viewed Via New Terra TV 2.0 Platform During the Pan-American Games

Terra Networks, with presence in 18 countries in
the U.S., Spain and Latin America, reports an unprecedented number of sports
enthusiasts watched the Pan-American games live from Rio de Janeiro this year, via
streaming video or on demand, many of whom were viewing more than one competition
at a time. A record breaking 14 million streams or VODs were delivered by the new
Terra TV 2.0 platform during the two week long competition. Soccer, Tae Kwon Do,
and swimming competitions were among the sports where nations from the Americas
were vying for medals which kicked off July 13.

In addition, Terra TV spectators spent approximately 15-20 minutes per stream, a
noteworthy finding as comScore Media Metrix found that the minutes per video stream
in the U.S. is a mere 2.6 minutes1. A possible explanation for the longer viewing time
for Latinos is the high relevancy of the Pan American games.

The exclusivity of coverage provided to visitors was made possible by a journalistic
powerhouse of more than 45 reporters, editors, photojournalists and technicians who
delivered breaking news on 33 different sporting events. Adding to this coverage was a
sizeable online community that posted their own blogs and comments on the Pan Am
Games. Terra’s audience had access to 12 channels offering up-to-the-minute sports
reporting of the games, commentary, highlights and news briefs.

“Our involvement in the Pan-American games is proof of how Terra is a leader in
providing exclusive coverage and video on demand. The record-breaking streaming
video and VODs confirm that Terra is revolutionizing the way sports and other high
profile current events are viewed,” stated Fernando Rodriguez, CEO for Terra
Networks. “In today’s world, everyone, no matter their geographic proximity to a
particular venue, can participate and interact via the advanced platforms and services
that the Internet provides.”

Among the millions that logged on to stay abreast of the action were the parents of
Mexican gold medalist in Judo, Vanessa Zambotti. “My parents were very excited, even
in tears, because they were well aware of all the struggles I endured during the games,”
said the competitor. Zambotti revealed that the Terra TV’s streaming videos allowed
her parents to follow all of her Pan Am Game matches, live. “In fact, they watched all
the competitions via one of the Terra portals. My best friend told them how they could
watch online at Terra.”
