Jorge Furtado: Director, Writer
Furtado's art is based on valuing the situations, the changes of
attitude, the possible choices of behaviour. Since Island of flowers,
we have been able to appreciate the goldsmith of Porto Alegre's
virtuosity. Furtado plays all the time with retinal persistence and
hearing acuity. Only Godard, in The power of speech (Puissance de la
parole) will go as far. Furtado pretends to focus on totally unusual and secondary
subjects to bring up, through the film, covertly, the essential subjects: iconoclastic,
new and shocking marriage of the comic and the tragic, which brutally comes to this
apparently amusing universe. A humour of the absurd is attained, close to
Queneaus's, Perec's, and to the Oulipo. With these latest movies, the wizard of Porto
Alegre has won the first row in the cinema of Latin American, and, maybe, even of
the whole American continent.

Lucas Akoskin: Producer
Lucas Akoskin has spent most of his life near a camera. By his early
twenties, he had already worked as an actor in several Argentine hit
TV shows. In 2001, Lucas relocated to NY where he started writing
The Doorman, a feature film he starred, wrote and produced with
Gigantic Pictures, and currently playing the festival circuit. Lucas was
instrumental at bringing together one of the industry's key players, Harvey Weinstein,
with Argentine art connoisseur Eduardo Costantini, which resulted in a partnership to
produce and distribute films: The Latin American Film Fund. Lucas recently finished
producing Terra Shorts: a collection of independent stories woven together by the
common Latin American experience. Rummikub is one of these stories.
