Hugo Sanchez awaits Rafael Marquez arrival
Mexico coach, Hugo Sanchez, highlights the importance of Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez and hopes that he will be able to overcome his injury and ready to play with Mexico in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
23/MAY/2007 - The Gold Cup will be played in the U.S. from June 6 to June 24. Hugo Sanchez will be awaiting for the Barcelona player's arrival for the June 21st Semifinal.
Marquez "is very important, he is the captain, one of the leaders, and it is necessary that he be here. He has his spot and I hope he is 100%", stated Sanchez while reffering to the defender's injury.
The Mexican coach assured the Marquez' injury was a "shame", but said the Marquez sounded optimistic on the phone about being able to re-gain fitness within a couple of days and be able to play with Mexico.
Hugo Sanchez also highlighted that he called Marquez to find out how serious the injury was in order to know whether or not to include him in the list of players for the Gold Cup.
Mexico has until Thursday to submit their roster for the Gold Cup, and the coach's plan is that Rafa will join the team during the semifinal of the tournament being held in the U.S.
"Marquez is convinced,and I am conviced that he will be in there for the semifinal and the final, that is his intention. We are a month away from the semifinal", stated Sanchez.
