The U.S. is looking for its second consecutive final
The U.S. will face Canada on Thursday looking for a spot in the final of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
20/06/07 - This will be the second time in the history of the tournament that the U.S. will face Canada in the semifinals. The last time was in 2002, when the U.S. won 4-2, in the penalty shoot out.
The stage is once again set, however, this time the U.S. had a fantastic opening round winning all three games and did not allow a single goal.
In the quarterfinals the U.S. had a rough time against Panama, which they beat 2-1.
Canada is the other side of the coin. They won Group A with a 2-1 win against Costa Rica, then they were stunned by Guadeloupe by the same score, and they closed group play with a 2-0 over Haiti.
The Canadians looked powerful in the quarter finals when they beat Guatemala 3-0. That was their second clean sheet in as many games.
Canada has one Gold Cup title. They won their lone title in 2000 when they beat Colombia in the final, while the U.S. has three titles and will try to advance to their sixth final in the competition.
They won in 1991, 2002, and 2005, but they lost to Mexico in the final in 1993 and 1998.
They game against Canada is scheduled for June 21 at 6 p.m. ct in Chicago’s storied Soldier Field.
Mexico and Guadeloupe will play three hours later to define the Second finalist.
