Un partido sin hits ni carreras es una curiosidad, pero un juego perfecto, cuya condición es la de que ningún bateador contrario se embase, es decir que el lanzador se enfrente solamente a 27, adjuntándole un componente defensivo que pocos, muy pocos conceden en estos partidos.

Miami se vistió de gala para un partido que prometía a dos de los mejores lanzadores del beisbol, Josh Johnson y Roy Halladay, seguidos de un concierto en el que se presentaban Jerry Rivera y Luis Enrique, dos de los mejores exponentes de la salsa actual y una exhibición de fuegos artificiales, en lo que muchos consideraban que era el mejor espectáculo del fin de semana en la cuidad.

Johnson y Halladay se trenzaron en un duelazo de lanzadores de alto vuelo, empañado solamente por el error de Cameron Maybin en el tercer inning que permitiría la única carrera (sucia) del partido, que al final se terminaría convirtiendo en el centro de la atención de un espectáculo en el que se esperaba que el concierto fuera el pináculo de la noche.

Cameron Maybin terminaría pagando su error del tercero en el noveno inning cuando su manager Fredi González lo sacó estando en la caja de bateadores, una humillación que deja mal al jardinero y al manager al mismo tiempo.

Varias cosas pasaron que no se ven en la televisión, por ejemplo, el propietario de los Marlins Jeffrey Loria, olvidó que Halladay había logrado su hazaña contra su equipo y fue al vestidor de los Phillies y en el pasillo, frente a la casa club de sus contrarios felicitó al gigantesco lanzador nacido en Denver.

Los Marlins también tuvieron otra deferencia con Halladay y le regalaron la goma del box, para que fuese guardada por el lanzador cuáquero como un recuerdo de su hazaña, cosa sobre la cual comentó algún pelotero de los Marlins, que no quiso ser nombrado. ¿y quién va a querer ver esa lomita después de lo que nos hicieron? Está bien que se la regalen.

El umpire principal Mike DiMuro estuvo trabajando como principal en 1969 cuando Jim Plamer lanzó el único no hit no run de su histórica carrera.

Mientras que Cookie Rojas, que hoy en día es voz del SAP de los Marlins en televisión estuvo presente en los dos juegos perfectos de los Phillies, aquí en Miami desde la caseta de transmisión y en el juego perfecto de Jim Bunning, el 21 de Junio de 1964 jugó en el campo corto y el left field por los Phillies.

Hablamos con Charlie Manuel que expresó que nunca pensó en sacar a Halladay a pesar de que el partido estuvo por una carrera solamente de diferencia, “sé que nadie dice cosas como estas, pero un día especial como este, puede no ser lo más importante asegurar un partido, así que nunca dudé sobre sacar a Roy para poner un bateador emergente”

La noche fue rara, todo terminó de una forma extraña, los Phillies no celebraron, ninguna algarabía en el club house, salvo la causada por el enjambre de periodistas rodeando a Halladay, el resto del mundo del beisbol si lo celebra y nos unimos a ello.
