 Aroldis Chapman deslumbra a Cerveceros en nuevo triunfo de Rojos

El desertor cubano ejerció un debut asombroso en las mayores al llegar a las 102 millas por hora en su entrada perfecta, y los Rojos ensancharon su magnífica ventaja en la División Central de la Liga Nacional el martes cuando vencieron 8-4 a los Cerveceros de Milwaukee.

Los Rojos terminaron agosto con la mejor foja (19- 8) de todos los equipos de las Grandes Ligas y lograron su mayor ventaja en la temporada con siete juegos adelante de San Luis, que perdió 3-0 con Houston. Cincinnati no ha tenido tal delantera desde 1995, desde cuando no ha vuelto a los playoffs.

Ahora tienen a un relevista poderoso para regresar a la postemporada.

"Oh, fue un debut maravilloso", señaló el piloto Dusty Baker. "La gente lo esperaba, y recibieron lo que habían escuchado y leído".

Chapman se integró al cuerpo de relevistas de los Rojos y cumplió pronto las expectativas al hacer cuatro lanzamientos que superaron las 100 mph.

Los Rojos convocaron al dominante zurdo con la esperanza de que le ponga mayor fuerza a sus relevistas con miras al menos para septiembre.

"Esto es algo grande para mí", dijo Chapman, de 22 años, mediante un intérprete. "Ser capaz de llegar y de lanzar no sólo aquí, sino de lanzar para los Rojos en los playoffs sería algo maravilloso para mí, seguir con el equipo y tener algún día la oportunidad de ganarlo todo".

Chapman trabajó rápido a los tres bateadores que enfrentó: un ponche a Jonathan Lucroy con un slider de 86 mph que desató una de varias ovaciones del público. Luego dos rodados flojos de Craig Counsell y el emergente dominicano Carlos Gómez. La mitad de sus ocho lanzamientos alcanzaron velocidades de tres dígitos, llegando a 102.

Mientras, Joey Votto empujó tres carreras con un par de dobles contra el mexicano Yovani Gallardo (11-7) en los que el público le expresó el deseo de que sea el Jugador Más Valioso.

En el resto de la Nacional, los Astros vencieron 3-0 a los Cardenales con triunfo del dominicano Wandy Rodríguez (11-12), los Gigantes 5-2 a los Rockies de Colorado con jonrón del boricua Andrés Torres en la octava, los Diamondbacks 7-4 a los Padres con un doble de dos carreras del venezolano Miguel Montero.

También, los Filis vapulearon 8-4 a Carlos Monasterios (3-5) y a los Dodgers, los Bravos ganaron 9-2 a los Mets, los Marlins 1-0 a los Nacionales en 10 entradas y los Piratas 14-7 a los Cachorros.

En Florida, el dominicano José Bautista conectó su 43er cuadrangular en la campaña y se afianzó como líder de la categoría en las mayores durante un racimo de 10 carreras en la sexta y los Azulejos de Toronto apabullaron 13-5 a los Rays de Tampa Bay.

"Es algo que te encanta", dijo Ricky Romero, quien lanzó hasta la octava para anotarse su 11ma victoria. "Uno quisiera ver eso todas las noches".

Es apenas la quinta derrota de Tampa Bay en 17 partidos, pero cayeron un juego detrás de los Yanquis de Nueva York en el Este de la Liga Americana.

Bautista coronó la explosión de la sexta entrada con un toletazo de tres carreras contra el relevista Lance Cormier que puso a los Azulejos al frente por 11-3. Es el mayor número de carreras anotadas por Toronto en una entrada desde que hicieron 11 el 25 de julio del 2007 en Minnesota.

Bautista también rompió un bate y remolcó carrera con un sencillo _ha producido 103 esta temporada_ en la octava.

Además, fue golpeado por un lanzamiento en el muslo en la primera de sus dos apariciones al plato durante la sexta.

"Dolió", dijo. "No pensé mucho en ello. Obtuvimos la victoria y eso es lo único que importa".

Romero (11-8) permitió cinco carreras y tres imparables, y regaló cinco bases por bolas en siete entradas y un tercio.

En otros resultados de la Americana, los Reales superaron 10-9 a los Rangers con victoria del mexicano Joakim Soria, los Orioles 5-2 a los Medias Rojas, los Medias Blancas 4-3 a los Indios, los Yanquis 9-3 a los Atléticos, los Mellizos 4-3 a los Tigres y los Marineros 3-1 a los Angelinos.
