El poder del brazo del abridor estelar, el zurdo CC Sabathia, volvió a ser el gran protagonista del triunfo por blanqueada de 5-0 que lograron los Yanquis de Nueva York frente a los Atléticos de Oakland.

La victoria, la sexta consecutiva, fue la número 19 de Sabathia en lo que va de temporada para igualar la marca que consiguió el año pasado y ponerse como líder de las Grandes Ligas en ese apartado.

Sabathia (19-5), que también logró 19 triunfos en la temporada del 2007 cuando jugaba con los Indios de Cleveland, lanzó ocho entradas para permitir un sólo hit, mientras que dio tres bases por bolas y abanicó a cinco bateadores rivales.

El abridor zurdo ha convertido el Yankee Stadium en un reducto inaccesible para los bateadores rivales al tener marca perfecta de 16-0 en las 21 salidas que ha hecho al montículo desde el Partido de las Estrellas del 2009.

Aunque los Atléticos han sido uno de los equipos rivales que peor se le han dado después de llegar al partido con marca perdedora de 6-8 y 5.36 de promedio de efectividad en los 20 duelos que había tenido contra la novena de Oakland.

El relevista puertorriqueño Jonathan Albaladejo trabajó perfecto el noveno episodio para asegurar la blanqueada de los Yanquis (84-50), que barrieron su primera serie de cuatro partidos ante los Atléticos desde la temporada de 1985.

El equipo neoyorquino de la Liga Americana, líder de la División Este con un juego y medio de ventaja sobre los Rays de Tampa Bay, que ganó el sexto partido consecutivo, tiene marca de 9-1 en los juegos que ha disputado esta temporada contra los Atléticos.

Si Sabathia puso el poder desde el montículo, el jardinero central Curtis Granderson pegó un par de jonrones para encabezar el bateo oportuno de los Yanquis, que en los últimos nueve partidos han logrado 21 cuadrangulares.

El jardinero, que salió después de la primera entrada para sustituir a Nick Swisher con problemas en la rodilla izquierda, pegó jonrón solitario y otro de dos carreras en los tres turnos que tuvo en la caja de bateo.

Granderson llegó a los 17 vuelacercas en lo que va de temporada y el receptor boricua Jorge Posada (17), que se fue de 3-2, también botó la pelota fuera del parque en el segundo episodio con bambinazo solitario contra el abridor Dallas Braden (9- 10).

El abridor estelar de los Atléticos cargó con la derrota después de haber lanzado seis entradas y tener que abandonar el montículo tras sufrir calambres producidos por el calor.

Mientras que el novato dominicano, el tercera base Eduardo Núñez, volvió a mostrar toda su clase y potencial con una gran jugada defensiva al inicio del sexto episodio que evitó lo pudo haber sido un hit peligroso del segunda base Mark Ellis.EFE ab/rm
