¿Quién es tu favorito para MVP de la Nacional?

Falta una veintena de partidos para finalizar la temporada del 2010 y Carlos González ha impuesto su candidatura como una avalancha bajando de las Rocayosas y ha insertado su nombre en el mismo grupo del que quizás sea el mejor bateador de los últimos 20 años, Albert Pujols y el potente bateador de los Rojos, Joey Votto. Esto ya es un hito tremendo en la joven carrera del zuliano de 24 años jugador de los Rockies de Colorado, pero lo visto en las últimas semanas nos hace creer que Carlos quiere aún más.

Partamos del principio, Albert Pujols ya tiene en la vitrina de su casa 3 de los trofeos con los que se reconoce al pelotero con más influencia en el buen resultado de su equipo o al menos eso nos hacen creer. El caso es que para analizar las oportunidades reales de CarGo es necesario entender el concepto del premio MVP, puesto que hay otro premio, mucho menos reconocidos que es el Player of the Year (jugador del año) que tiene dos versiones una escogencia de los periodistas y otra llamada Player Choice Award, que escogen los propios jugadores.

José Alberto Pujols está en su décima temporada en las mayores y sus números los están llevando con una velocidad enorme al Salón de la Fama, es considerado por muchos la quintaesencia del bateo en las ligas mayores. En el 2010 ha logrado conectar para 311, con 36 vuelacercas, 98 carreras impulsadas, 33 dobletes, 97 anotadas, 12 robos y un porcentaje de embasado de 403, además de ser el más fuerte candidato al Guante de Oro de la Nacional en la primera base, sólo ha cometido 3 errores para 998 de porcentaje de fildeo en 135 partidos jugados. Lo que juega en contra del superdotado es el segundo lugar que ocupan los Cardenales a buena distancia de los Rojos con tan pocos partidos por jugar.

A pesar de los excelentes números del dominicano, este siente la responsabilidad de explicar que aun no sean mejores "Estoy tratando de batear para los gaps y eso es muy útil para el equipo, me ayuda a estar más veces en bases y bateando hacia la banda contraria rindo más" nos comentó el slugger cardenal, en exclusiva.

Otro candidato de peso, es precisamente un rojo, el inicialista Joey Votto. A los 26 años está en medio de su cuarta temporada en grandes ligas, en 2008 fue segundo en la votación al Novato del Año en la nacional y este 2010 vuelve a poner unos números impresionantes. 326 de promedio, con 99 impulsadas, 32 jonrones, 94 anotadas, 29 dobletes, 13 robos y 419 de porcentaje de embasamiento, sumados a un impresionante 996 de porcentaje de fildeo, con sólo 4 errores en la temporada sin las armas con las que pretende el canadiense obtener el premio al mayor valor del béisbol.

Si bien Votto tiene números inferiores a los de Pujols, su ventaja está en que quizás los Rojos terminen yendo a la postemporada, mientras que los Cardenales se queden por fuera, de ser esta la situación Votto verá sus números levantarse por ese importante componente. Ahora si los Cardenales alcanzan a los de Cinci, olvídense de Votto, su candidatura estaría en un tercer término.

Carlos Eduardo González es una de las mayores sorpresas del 2010, si bien ya sabíamos que podía ser un buen bateador de liga mayor el estar luchando por el MVP en igualdad de condiciones y no sólo como parte de la manipulación periodística, es casi increíble pero una realidad. Cargo batea para 340, con 100 impulsadas, 95 anotadas, 30 dobles, 23 robos y un porcentaje de embasado de 376. Esto sumado a un imponente 996 de porcentaje de fildeo, al cometer sólo un error en la temporada, lo que bien podría darle un lustre de Guante de Oro a su casi seguro Bate de Plata.

Lo que complica al maracucho es el tercer lugar ocupado por Colorado a estas alturas de la temporada aunque la debacle de San Diego unido a un repunte rocayoso, que va por las seis victorias seguidas, podrían poner a Cargo con más fuerza en la contienda por el MVP. El mismo reconoce el valor de su equipo en sus numeritos “Siempre he dicho que los números de un pelotero tienen mucho que ver con los compañeros, siempre una palabra, un detalle son importantes y aquí hay gente con mucha experiencia que ve cosas que uno no ve” dijo González para Meridiano.

A pesar de todo lo expuesto, González tiene que luchar contra los números que ha logrado en Coors Field y la gran diferencia que existe entre lo hecho en casa y como visitante. MLB ha tratado de paliar el vuelo de la pelota en Colorado humidificando las pelotas con las que juegan, pero hay un consenso en relación a que esta humedad inducida se va perdiendo con el paso de los innings, puesto que las pelotas son sacadas al inicio del partido.

Carlos batea para 394, con 25 jonrones, 66 impulsadas y 61 anotadas y sólo se ha ponchado 43 veces en el Coors Field, mientras que lo hace para 288 con 7 jonrones, 34 impulsadas y 34 anotadas y se ha ponchado 74 veces en la carretera, números que van a ser considerados y podrían ser utilizados en contra del venezolano por lo amplio de la diferencia.

En Miami hicimos una encuesta entre los periodistas asiduos al Palco de Prensa del Sun Life Stadium, el resultado arrojó un 23% de afectos a la candidatura de Cargo para el MVP, Mientras que Votto tiene el 39% de los afectos y Pujols 27% pero la gran mayoría de ellos no son votantes para el premio.

Las últimas semanas Cargo ha estado bateando a un ritmo sobrehumano y todo lo que se pueda decir de él y su gran campaña es poco, los números están ahí para ser analizados y su posibilidad de MVP es inefable esperemos al final de la Serie Mundial para saber si es o no el ganador y entra a la historia como el primer venezolano en lograrlo.
