El intermedista Dustin Pedroia se está resignando a la posibilidad de someterse a una cirugía por una fractura del pie izquierdo, con lo que terminaría su participación con los Medias Rojas de Boston en esta temporada.

Pedroia será examinado el viernes.

"Me sometieron a una tomografía en la mañana", dijo Pedroia el jueves, antes del juego de Boston contra los Orioles. "Si tengo que operarme lo definiremos más tarde".

Originalmente, la lesión ocurrió a finales de junio. Pedroia regresó en agosto durante dos encuentros, pero volvió a ser incluido en la lista de los lesionados por 15 días.

El Jugador Más Valioso de la Liga Americana en el 2008 confiaba, lo mismo que los Medias Rojas, en que podría regresar este mismo mes, pero su recuperación no ha sido tan rápida como se esperaba.

Pedroia está reacio a perderse lo que queda de la campaña, pero reconoció que probablemente la cirugía es la mejor solución.

"Creo que con ello la lesión sanaría mejor", dijo. "Me explicaron que hay una probabilidad de 50% de que sin la cirugía me sienta mejor, pero ya vimos lo que ocurrió la última vez: jugué dos partidos y no podía caminar al día siguiente".

Pedroia promedió 150 partidos por campaña durante los últimos tres años. En esta temporada, batea para .288, con 12 vuelacercas y 41 impulsadas en 75 encuentros.
