El guardabosques dominicano José Bautista sigue ampliando su ventaja como líder jonronero al ligar su cuadrangular número 43 y los Azulejos de Toronto vencieron 13-5 a los Rays de Tampa Bay.

El equipo de Tampa Bay tuvo una costosa derrota porque descendió del liderato y queda a un juego de desventaja de los Yanquis de Nueva York, que ahora controlan en solitario la División Este de la Liga Nacional.

Los Rays y los Yanquis habían estado compartiendo el liderato durante los últimos ocho días consecutivos.

Bautista (43) se voló la barda en el sexto episodio sobre los envíos de Lance Cormier, llevando a dos corredores por delante, para afianzarse como líder de las Grandes Ligas en el apartado de cuadrangulares.

El dominicano coronó un ataque de 10 carreras en la sexta entrada, el racimo más amplio que consiguen los Azulejos en un episodio desde que consiguieron 11 anotaciones el 25 de julio del 2007 en Minnesota.

Bautista encendió los toletes porque el segunda base Aaron Hill (21) y el parador en corto Josh McDonald (5) lo siguieron pegando sendos jonrones para los Azulejos.

El dominicano fue el único bate latinoamericano que jugó para los Azulejos.

La derrota la cargó el abridor Jeff Niemann (10-5) en cinco episodios, permitió siete imparables, un jonrón, siete carreras, dio dos bases y ponchó a tres.

Por los Rays los dominicanos el primera base Carlos Peña se fue de 4-0, y el tercera base Willie Aybar, de 1-0.EFE vmc/mbj
