 Las lesiones hacen pensar a Rentería en el retiro

Las reiteradas lesiones arruinaron la temporada a Edgar Rentería que por primera vez contempla la posibilidad de retirarse luego de 15 años en las grandes ligas.

Rentería _miembro de los Gigantes de San Francisco y catalogado como el mejor beisbolista colombiano de la historia_ podría poner punto final a su carrera al cierre de esta temporada.

La cuestión de las lesiones se resume en rotura en el muslo derecho, distensión en la ingle del mismo costado y acaba de recuperarse de un problema en el bíceps izquierdo que lo marginó de 19 juegos en agosto.

El pelotero nativo de Barranquilla _en el Caribe colombiano_ ha intervenido en 63 de los 163 juegos de la temporada y batea para .278.

Las dificultades lo acompañan desde 2009 cuando se sometió a una cirugía en el codo derecho y no terminó la temporada.

"Hay que esperar y ver el próximo año si sigo jugando o me retiro ya, pues... Por ahora, sólo pienso en llegar a la final", dijo el domingo al matutino El Tiempo de Bogotá.

Rentería fue héroe luego que bateó el hit que les dio a los Marlins el gallardete en la Serie Mundial de 1997.

El asunto de las lesiones se convirtió en una tortura a sus 35 años de edad.

"Por las lesiones ha sido un año muy difícil, un año muy frustrante. No he jugado mucho. No estoy acostumbrado a esto y la verdad puede ser por ese lado (el retiro), aunque ahora quiero llegar a la final. No he pensado en buscar otro equipo para firmar o en estar acá porque de pronto me retiro", concluyó.

El 'Niño' está en condiciones de actuar desde el miércoles pero el manager Bruce Bochy prefiere mantener a Juan Uribe en el campocorto, según la pagina oficial de los Gigantes.
