Los Mets han tenido serios problemas con su staff de abridores esta temporada y esto se ha terminado convirtiendo en una enorme piedra en el zapato de Jerry Manuel y Omar Minaya. Es difícil ser competitivo cuando de los cinco abridores que planeaste al inicio de la temporada sólo has podido contar con la consistencia de Mike Pelfrey.

Oliver Pérez

El mexicano ha sido un autentico fiasco para los metropolitanos, el nativo de Sinaloa se ha embolsillado $ 32.825.000,00 desde su llegada a la gran manzana en el 2006, mientras que su record de 29-27 con 4.64 de efectividad, no vale ni de cerca lo que Minaya pagó por su servicios, lo peor es que ahora mismo gana 12.000.000 por esta temporada y fue colocado en la lista de incapacitados, sólo para ahorrase el problema de enviarlo a las menores a disgusto, puesto que declaró que no estaba dispuesto a ir a las menores.

Los números de Pérez en el 2009 y 2010 son muy parecidos, en el 2009 en 14 aperturas tuvo record de 3-4 con 6.82 de efectividad, mientras en el 2010 su registro era terriblecon0-3 y 6.28. El zurdo que la gerencia de los Mets suponía su tercer abridor está muy lejos de ser confiable.

Johan Santana

En medio de comentarios adversos de todas parte Johan Santana está batallando para volver a su mejor condición, tras someterse a una cirugía en el 2009 su recta ha descendido poco más de cuatro millas en su velocidad promedio y ha tenido logros y fallas en el camino para reencontrarse.

Su efectividad dista mucho de ser la mejor de su carrera, pero si es mejor que la da la mayor parte de los lanzadores de las mayores y aunque ha tenido algunas salidas nefastas se mantiene en 2.96 y aunque ha bajado mucho su capacidad de ponchar y esta es una de las causas de su temporada irregular, ha abanicado a 58 en 85 innings, lejos de su promedio de uno por inning del 2007.

John Maine

Maine fue un desastre similar al de Pérez hasta que se lesionó y fue a parar a la lista de incapacitados, su record está en 1-3 con 6.13 de efectividad y otorga más de 5 bases por bolas cada 9 innings.

Mike Pelfrey

De los pertenecientes a la rotación original, sólo Mike Pelfrey ha tenido una buena actuación, yo diría que es excelente 8-1 con 2.23 de efectividad lo colocan en la élite de lanzadores del 2010, en la que Ubaldo Jiménez, Carlos Silva, Roy Halladay, Phil Hughes, David Price, Andy Pettitte, Brett Cecil y Chris Carpenter entre otros, han logrado extraordinarios records.

Dickey, Takahashi y Niese

Estos no estaban invitados a la fiesta, pero su labor ha sido la que realmente ha permitido a los Mets estar en contienda a estas alturas de temporada. Dickey tiene cuatro victorias sin derrotas en cinco aperturas con una efectividad de 2.78 y Niese tiene 3-2 con 3.61 de efectividad en diez salidas.

Isanori Takahashi se ha convertido en el "otro" pitcher diferente de los Mets, 5-2 y 3.48 de efectividad con casi un ponche por inning, en cinco aperturas, viniendo desde el bullpen, ha podido lanzar partidos hasta de 7entradas, con lo que ha logrado bajar la inmensa presión que hay sobre la gerencia por las malas contrataciones y es parte de la nueva cara de los Mets, que si me preguntan a mi debería eestar conformada de esta manera, Pelfrey, Santana, Dickey, Takahashi y Niese.
