Nelson Cruz tiene todo para ser considerado el auténtico sucesor, por derecho propio, de Vladimir Guerrero, si bien no es tan rápido como lo fue el de Nizao, su bate es uno de los más temibles de la liga americana gracias a su poder y extrema oportunidad.

Nelson Cruz no es un jovencito y estuvo en el sube y baja entre las mayores y las menores desde el 2005al 2008. Sus números del 2009 le han abierto un lugar en las grandes ligas con unos Rangers que adoran las características del grandón de Monte Cristi, de 29 años y de una gran capacidad bateadora que le es reconocida en todo el béisbol.

33 jonrones con 260 de promedio, con 78 impulsadas y 20 robos fueron sus números en su primera temporada completa en las mayores y su arranque en el 2010 tenía proyecciones superiores, hasta que el tendón de la corva de su rodilla izquierda le jugó una mala pasada que lo llevaría a la lista de incapacitados en dos ocasiones. “Quiero siempre estar en el line up, es triste estar en el banco” comenta Cruz, en relación a su lesión.

Durante su tiempo en las lista ha estado viajando con los Rangers, lo que hace para sentirse ocupado “es que sino uno está aburrido sin hacer nada” pero lucha contra el hastío que le produce la inactividad por su lesión “Llego temprano al play para ver los videos y corregir algunas fallitas, también trabajo en la pesas, pero me hace falta la pelota”

Rehabilitación

Su segunda incursión en la lista de incapacitados pareció haber sido causada por el apremio en volveral terreno “Actualmente estoy bajo revisión médica para poder volver en buenas condiciones y no volver a recaer, tengo que cuidarme para que no me pase lo mismo”

En relación a su rehabilitación, nos comenta que está cerca de regresar de lalista de lesionados “Este fin de semana estaré jugando en las menores con el equipo Knoxville, para luego unirme al equipo grande el día martes 22 de junio”. Estuvo trabajando físicamente fuerte a pesar de su condición “Me siento fuerte hoy aquí en Miami estuve corriendo, bateando haciendo lo cotidiano para volver a entrar en calor”.

Los Rangers

Está muy contento por la llegada de Vladimir Guerreo al equipo y los considera realmente competitivos “Este equipo tiene una química alegre, eso va a marcar la diferencia este año, con la llegada de Vladimir conseguimos un cuarto bate natural que se une a Hamilton y a los demás muchachos”.

Un All Star

Se declara fanático de Home Run Derby y su selección al Juego de Estrellas le sorprendió y lo considera como lo más grande en su carrera “Haber asistido al juego de las estrellas el año pasado era uno de mis sueños, el verme rodeado de todas esas luminarias de béisbol, cuando niño disfrutaba el jonrón derby era lo máximo para mí y todas las amistades que nos reuníamos a ver esos palos largos” aunque no cree que volvería a ir al derby de jonrones dada la situación de sus rodillas “De invitarme este año, tengo que pensarlo, tengo que evaluar mis piernas para tomar una decisión que no me vaya a perjudicar en el futuro”.
