 Celebridades acompañan a Oprah en el fin de su programa

Una lista de las más destacadas personalidades de Hollywood engalanó la despedida de Oprah Winfrey el martes en una grabación doble de su programa que incluyó mensajes de sus seguidores alrededor del mundo.

"Puedo sentir el amor y les agradezco por ello", dijo Winfrey a la multitud reunida en el estadio United Center de Chicago. "Gracias por ser parte de esta gran noche, esta celebración por lo que han hecho para 'The Oprah Winfrey Show'. Ustedes nos han mantenido en pie 25 años".

Tom Hanks y después Tom Cruise recibieron a Winfrey cuando llegó al escenario en medio de la ovación de los 13.000 reunidos para la grabación del programa especial "Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular". Josh Groban y Patti LaBelle cantaron "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" mientras Winfrey los veía desde una silla blanca en el escenario.

"¿No fue lo mejor de lo mejor?", dijo Winfrey cuando terminaron. La conductora anunció en noviembre de 2009 que podría fin a su famoso programa de entrevistas tras 25 años con él.

Madonna contó al público que ella era una de los millones de personas que han sido inspiradas por Oprah.

"Ella lucha por las cosas en las que cree, incluso si esto no la hace popular", dijo Madonna.

La segunda parte de la grabación, que servirá para un segundo programa, comenzó con Will Smith y su esposa Jada Pinkett Smith, quienes agradecieron a Winfrey y le dijeron que ella había cumplido el papel de madre de millones de personas. "Eso te da el estatus de una diosa", agregaron.

Michael Jordan, que llevó a los Bulls de Chicago a seis campeonatos de la NBA en la década de 1990, subió al escenario y abrazó a Winfrey. Jordan le dijo a la conductora que la quería y que había sido su inspiración.

Jamie Foxx y Stevie Wonder le cantaron a Winfrey "Isn't She Lovely". Wonder dijo armoniosamente: "Oprah gracias por usar tus dones para levantar tantos corazones".

Simon Cowell también estuvo presente; Rosie O'Donnell cantó una pieza al estilo Broadway y Jerry Seinfeld realizó una rutina de comedia.

Maria Shriver, ex reportera de televisión y heredera de los Kennedy, apareció el mismo día que se reveló que su esposo Arnold Schwarzenegger tuvo un hijo, hace más de diez años, con una mujer que trabajaba como empleada doméstica en la casa de ambos. Shriver no mencionó nada de su esposo durante la grabación.

"Me has dado amor, apoyo, sabiduría y lo más importante de todo, la verdad", dijo Shriver a Winfrey. "Y sé que no soy la única que ha recibido estos regalos de ti".

Aretha Franklin cantó "Amazing Grace" para luego de ser presentada por la pareja de Winfrey, Stedman Graham.

Dakota Fanning encabezó a un grupo de chicos que hablaron de la influencia de Winfrey en su vida.

"Siempre has tenido el poder y este es el mensaje que le das a nuestras vidas", le dijo Cruise a Winfrey.

Halle Berry, Queen Latifah, Katie Holmes y Diane Sawyer también estuvieron invitadas. Beyonce cantó su "Run the World (Girls)" acompañada por decenas de bailarines y Rascal Flatts también se presentó.

"Oprah Winfrey, gracias a ti mujeres de todo el mundo alcanzaron un nuevo nivel de entendimiento sobre quienes somos, qué somos y, lo más importante, todo lo que podemos ser", dijo Beyonce antes de su presentación.

El estadio estaba decorado con fotografías de los momentos importantes en la carrera de Winfrey a lo largo de su programa. Entre los asientos había estratégicamente colocadas cajas de pañuelos desechables.

La grabación del martes se transmitirá en dos partes el 23 y el 24 de mayo, antes del último programa de Winfrey, el 25 de mayo.

Harpo Productions recibió 154.000 solicitudes de boletos para el programa. Las entradas eran gratis y se distribuyeron por medio de un sorteo.

Celebridades como Lisa Ling, Carson Kressley, Jessica Seinfeld, Ally Wentworth, Bob Greene y el ex alcalde de Chicago Richard Daley estuvieron entre el público.

Winfrey también recibió mensajes grabados de algunos de sus admiradores no tan famosos.
