A Christmas Tragedy
Agatha Christie (1891-1976)
Agatha Christie is the pseudonym of Mary Clarisa Miller, British novelist and playwright. She was born in Torquay, and died in Wali Lingford. She studied singing and piano in Paris. Her first marriage, to an air force colonel when she was 24, ended in divorce in 1928. Her restless nature and great talent allowed her to pass from the ranks of British high society to that of a successful writer. Always a non-conformist, she volunteered her services as a nurse during both World Wars.
The story involves a wealthy old man with a strange and despotic nature. One Christmas, he manages to reunite his entire family: his three sons and their three wives, a son he hasn't seen in years and a niece, whom he's never seen. The ordinarily placid Christmas holiday is shattered when the father is brutally murdered. Once again, Poirot steps into the fray, displaying his customary mastery and proficiency in flushing out the killer.
