Memorable literary works, their origins and characters
Three Stories: A Christmas Memory, One Christmas and The Thanksgiving Visitor
Truman Capote (1924-1984)
American writer, born in New Orleans in 1924. His writings have established him as one of the influential writers of the Southern school of neoromanticism. His real name was Truman Strekfas Persons, but was better known by his pseudonym, Truman Capote. Capote was educated chiefly at Trinity School and St. John's Academy, in New York City.
This work describes three memorable excursions into the territories of memory, the past and childhood. It is a reminiscence of three past holiday family gatherings - two on Christmas and one on Thanksgiving - transformed into literature. The young Truman, Buddy, is the main character in all three stories, three momentary glimpses of the author's childhood. Capote brings to bear the full weight of his narrative skill in these tales of innocence, love and evil. The book remains a definitive example of a concise and masterly lesson of literature - the possibility of turning personal experience into works of art.
