THE THREE WISE MEN
In the times of King Herod, three wise men arrived in Jerusalem from the East: Melchior, Caspar and Balthasar. Upon their arrival, the wise men announced to the people of Jerusalem that the King of the Jews had been born in Bethlehem of Judea. Although their news caused alarm, King Herod allowed them to continue their search towards Bethlehem and during their journey, a star guided them to the manger where Baby Jesus lay. |

The three wise men rejoiced at the sight of the newborn and offered him gifts of gold, incense and myrrh and praised him. Since then, many countries around the world celebrate the arrival of the wise men on Jan. 6, also known as the Twelfth Day, which commemorates Jesus' manifestation to the Magi as the Christ. Tradition dictates that on this day, nice boys and girls get gifts, while the ones who have been naughty get coal.
