GIFTS
In imperial Rome, a pagan celebration by the name of Saturnalia was held from Dec. 17 through Dec. 24. During that period, the Romans honored Saturn, the god of agriculture, with great feasts and with the exchange of gifts among them. |

It is said that the tradition of giving gifts to loved ones during Christmas was derived from this Roman celebration. Although many believe that gift-giving was popularized by the Romans, some say the custom harkens to the offerings made by the three Magi for the Baby Jesus. |
