Going to New Zealand to see the
arrival of the new millennium has a special allure all
its own. It means getting close to another way of life,
to a different culture and costumes that will surely please
the traveler greeting the New Year in this beautiful country.
THE MILLENNIUM FESTIVAL
The New Zealanders will be putting on
not just one, but several large parties in different parts
of their country to celebrate the arrival of the new millennium.
There will be religious festivals and pagan festivals,
ancestral rites interspersed with the most traditional
costumes brought in by outsiders, especially Anglo-Saxon
ones. But among all these parties, there will be one very
special event MC'd by David Bowie.
This multitalented artist will be the star of an unforgettable
performance at the Gisborne Festival; he's writing a song
for the festival that he will perform on the first minute
of the new millennium.
The New Zealand band Splitz Enz will also be performing
at a 24-hour party held in Awapuni Stadium. Every attendee
will receive a certificate stating that he or she was
present at the first dawning of the new century, and their
names will be engraved on a large wall on the beach in
the city of Gisborne.
