THINGS TO SEE AND DO NEARBY
Bangkok has changed in the last 20 years into one of
the most tourist-friendly cities in the world. And there
are certainly many things of interest that the mysterious
capital of the Far East has to offer to those who visit
it.
As you stroll through the city, pay a visit to the Phra
Pinklao bridge and use it as a point of reference for
your movements about the city. The National Theater
and the National Museum are two of the first items of
interest you might want to visit, then go to Wat Mahathat,
the temple of the Buddhist University, a sight well
worth the visit. The jewelry market is a veritable gold
mine for small gifts to take home. Then, there's the
Grand Palace and the temple of Wat Pho.
Sampeng Lana is the most commercial street in Bangkok;
you can find almost everything there. And in Chinatown,
the Saphan Market is worthy of a visit if only to see
how extraordinarily picturesque it is.
The number of marketplaces, both large and small, scattered
throughout the city is enormous; in addition to those
on terra firma, there are floating ones such as Bang
Khu Biang, the most beautiful to visit because it has
been able to retain its more traditional flavor.
There are also excellent places to dine in Bangkok,
such as the Laicram, which offers the best Asian cooking
in the city. The Mandalay is an excellent place to discover
Burmese cuisine, and the Sorn Dang is the best when
it comes to Thai food.
