Yo soy boricua, pa' que tu lo sepas
Explores Rosie Perez’s burning question: Why are Puerto Ricans so damn proud?
Synopsis:
Rosie Perez’s directorial debut uncovers the complex and controversial history between Puerto Rico and the United States. The film also celebrates Puerto Rican pride, while describing the difficulties of growing up as a Puerto Rican in New York.
Growing up, Rosie was at times told she wasn’t Puerto Rican enough; she was made fun of for having light skin and for not speaking Spanish. Raised in Brooklyn, Rosie grew up with one foot in the Spanish speaking, culturally proud home of an aunt, and the other with her mom, who only spoke English and wanted her family to assimilate.
Until now, Rosie has never before publicly talked about her personal struggle, being Puerto Rican and also American.
