In our culture it is tradition not to speak of, sex & sexuality these things are not openly discussed. For some Hispanics, this sexual silence dictates that they should not know or talk to men about sex precisely because it suggests promiscuity.

In order to break the hold HIV has on the Hispanic community this taboo must be broken first. By many sexual behavior is viewed as immoral and dangerous, it is time to have sexual negotiation skills, and ways to say “no” taught to our young people. In hand with these verbal prevention methods practical condom information should be included with free condoms. In order to lose the fear, and break the taboos young people especially those most affected in our community, should have skills.
One survey of Hispanic, unmarried adults found that 44% felt uncomfortable having sex with the lights on ….ever try to get a condom on in the dark? Practice and prepare yourself for a successful negotiation or sexual encounter. Success means safer, safer means with a condom or negotiating with your partner to do something less risky.
